Family Vacation on a Budget – House Sit for Someone in a Different City

    Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Are you a Family on Budget and still want to go on vacation this Spring or Summer? Do you have friends and family in another town that are going away and need someone to watch their house, feed their cats, and water their plants?

You can help out your family or friends and watch over their house and then be a tourist in their city and check out the local sites and see what there is to do for your family within an hour of their house. Or maybe if both families are on a budget you can swap houses for a week !

It’s fun to be at someone else’s house and play with someone else’s toys and maybe visit some pets especially if you have a pet-free home. We just did this for a week and my 18 month old yelled “kitty kitty” everytime we pulled up to my girlfriend’s house. I am allergic to cats and we cannot have any, but I can cope with staying at her house as long as I am not snuggling with them and whatnot. It was pure joy for Jonathan to love up 2 very lovey cats. We watered and fed the cats, played with their toys, played in their yard, kept the house tidy, watered the plants and grass, checked the mail.

We have friends and family in the area and visited them and checked out the local sites in the area like the parks, the zoo, the shopping, the movies. We had a ton of fun without paying for a hotel and helped out my girlfriend too so she wouldn’t have to board her cats and keep her grass and plants alive.

I just googled “house sitting” and there are even all kinds of services for house sitters and for home owners looking for house sitters.

Family Vacations – Are you planning a trip this Spring ?

    Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Planning where you go – Is there Something for Everyone?
Search for a vacation spot that has something for everyone of all ages going on the trip. If you are going somewhere that is fun for younger kids, consider what there is to do if you have pre-teens and teens. You may have re-visit what venue you are choosing based upon the ages of your children. Let your older children do some research for you about specific various destinations to take part in the process and to make sure there is something fun for them to do & get excited about in anticipation.

    Take advantage of off-peak times
This year our family went to Cedar Point the week AFTER school had started. We got a great full package deal at the nearby Kalahari Resort – $99 for an upgraded room, movies, brunch, free entrance tickets to animal safari and the 2nd night for only $35 !. Another HUGE benefit was that there was no waiting on the rides at Cedar Point. Rides that had hours long waits this summer had no wait or you only had to wait one turn ahead of you.

Look at a variety of options and choices offered by your choice destination
When we were pricing out a Disney trip for our family, I looked at specials all across the internet, FaceBook specials, Twitter Specials, the Disney site and even called the Disney hotline. When you call the vacation destination, tell them what specials you have found – they will not offer you a cheaper rate when you are booking. When all was said and done it was cheaper for us to stay 8 days and 7 nights than 5 days and 4 nights !

    I Love Baby Blankets

    Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Baby Blankets are an important part to your baby’s entire crib bedding and nursery set-up. Welcome a new baby with one of our wonderful baby blankets or baby quilts. The blankets are perfect for keeping baby warm and cozy and will add a great decorative touch to your nursery.

Baby Blankets are available in many styles, designs, sizes, colors and fabrics to coordinate with any nursery or for use indoors and outdoors. Whether you need a blanket for crib or stroller, bedtime or naptime, you are sure to find just the perfect one to appeal to you and your child. Choose from among the many nursery collections and among the custom options including hand embroidery, monogramming and personalization to get the perfect blanket for your baby.

A rule that we made for each of our babies is that as soon as we determined what their most favorite blanket was; we purchased a back up blanket. Baby blankets are a treasured friend and keepsake. It’s great to have 2 of them in rotation to make life easier when you need to wash one or if one gets temporarily misplaced.

So, when you are thinking of baby bedding, be sure to remember those special baby blankets !

Lulla Smith Luxury Baby Crib Bedding is a HUGE hit with Celebrity Babies

    Thursday, February 11th, 2010

“Entering the world of high-end baby bedding, in 1998, was a whole new ballpark for designer Lulla Smith, but after meeting with an upscale boutique who absolutely loved all her products, she hit it big when her first Hollywood couple, Courteney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette, chose her “Cloud” crib line for their daughter, Coco Riley, now 3 ½. From there it just got better and better! After being featured in People, Life & Style and In Touch, Lulla’s list of celebrities grew as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes purchased three “Greenwich” bassinets for their daughter Suri. More recently, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony commissioned her for the bedding in their twins’ nursery.”

“With a client list like Lulla Smith has, it’s no wonder so many people stopped to admire the beautiful bedding Lulla had on display (including a replica of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s crib made by Bratt Decor featuring Lulla Smith bedding, pictured at right). Since her start, Lulla Smith has worked with a long list of celebrities including Heidi Klum and Seal, Elisabeth and Tim Hasselbeck, Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, and has even worked with the Trump family — from Donald, for his toddler son Barron, 2, to his eldest son, Donald Jr., for his own daughter, Kai Madison, who just celebrated her first birthday.”

    Family Fun Nights

    Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Here’s some ideas of what we do for our Family Fun Nights:
    - Play board games like: Checkers, Chess, and Pokemon Sorry
    - Play games like: Jenga, BattleShip, and Yahtzee
    - Play card games like: Go Fish, Old Maid, or Pokers with chocolate chips
    - Play wii games like: Wii Sports, Tony Hawk Downhill Jam, Mario Kart, American Idol, Family Bowling or Tennis
    - Food and Snacks include: Pizza, Pop, Popcorn, Chocolate Bars, and Gummy Bears
    - PJs and MovieTime round out the night ! We all get our pjs on and hunker down on the couches and sleeping bags and watch a fun family movie like: Over the Hedge, The Incredibles, or Spy Kids.

Some of the benefits of a Family Fun Night:

    Laughter
“Games offer a fresh experience every time you play, providing new ways to have fun and laugh together. Some games, such as CRANIUM and OPERATION, are developed with giggles in mind and would be a great choice on nights when everyone needs a good laugh.”

    Family Bonding
“Game play allows your kids to learn from you and from each other. It encourages a sense of connectedness and respect among family members.”

    Learning
“Games can be a subtle learning tool. For instance, CLUE is good for learning deductive reasoning. MONOPOLY is ideal for teaching beginning budget skills and YAHTZEE provides a fun way to teach simple addition and multiplication.”

    Life Skills
“Games teach kids important life skills such as patience, concentration, teamwork and perseverance. By taking turns, following rules and even losing a game, kids learn skills that they can apply at school and in the home.”

Once a month we invite another family over that has kids and we ask them to bring their pjs and sleeping bags and get ready for lots of family fun. Our kids come home thrilled and excited on Friday nights. Institute a Family Fun Night in your house this week ! Make it one of your family traditions.
