    Arbor Day

    Friday, April 29th, 2011

    Today is Arbor Day. For those of you not familiar with this date on the calendar, it is a day to plant and take care of trees. What a wonderful reason for a holiday! On April 10, 1872, the very first Arbor Day occurred and approximately 1 million trees were planted in Nebraska. A few years later, Birdsey Northrop (from right here in Connecticut!) took the custom abroad when he visited Japan in 1833. Since then, Arbor Day celebrations have been held around the world. As trees are a vital part of our world, providing oxygen, shelter and beauty, we thought we would celebrate them ourselves today at So go hug a tree, plant a new one or simply tend to the ones in your own yard. Here are a few of our favorite trees at;

This “Green Tree” Oopsy daisy Wall art by Jill McDonald, brings a colorful life of a tree into your child’s room. It brings the world of colors into your child’s room. This top quality canvas reproduction is made using the Giclee printing process and has the look and feel of an original painting. Each piece is stretched over wood bars with no glass to break and is equipped with a wire hanger on the back for easy wall displaying. No additional framing is necessary. Each canvas is decoratively finished along the 3/4 inch thick sides. It can be wiped clean with a soft, dry cloth. Makes a wonderful addition to any child’s room, playroom or even beach house. Designed by artist Jill McDonald and it comes with his biography attached to the back.

The DwellStudio Tree Rug is a stylish and fun addition to any room. Comfy and cool, this finely made wool carpet in blue and green hues, adds a unique touch to your decor. The Multi Tree rug is designed to coordinate with the Dwell Studio bedding and crib collections or it works by itself!

This Oopsy Daisy “Jellybean Tree” nightlight features a bright and colorful tree along with a bird; a vibrant addition to your little one’s room. This nightlight can be easily wiped clean with a soft, dry cloth and is ideal for your child’s room as it does not have a glass surface to break. You can personalize the nightlight with your child’s name or any other word or phrase like “Good Night”. This nightlight is designed by Gale Kaseguma, whose biography is included with each unit.

And the handpainted baby plate with prayer will become a treasured keepsake gift for years to come. This tropical design features a palm tree in the center and a prayer on the border. The plate can be ordered personalized with the baby’s name. Each plate is handpainted by the artist for each order. All dinnerware is food safe and dishwasher safe.

    Let’s Clean This House!

    Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

It’s that time of year again. The rains are washing away the last of winter’s grimey grip outside. It is time to tackle some of your inside projects as well. Spring cleaning begins Now!

First step: Grab your clipboard and make a list of projects to tackle. The Clipboards collection by Clairebella is perfect for the task at hand. Really, you can use it anywhere you want, such as at home, school or office. With a dry erase surface, these clipboards come with a size of 9” x 12 1/2”. You can easily get them personalized as per your choice with different patterns, background colors and fonts. They look cool and unique with customized styling of names, thoughts, idioms or phrases. So start writing and let’s get cracking on that to-do list!

Step two: Purge! After a long winter of cocooning inside, it is time to break free and purge the area. Get rid of broken items, unloved toys, and clothing that is just too small. While some things can certainly be donated to charitable organizations, other items are headed straight to the trash. Unless you need a dumpster, the hand painted bee waste basket is great for many rooms in the home (bedroom, nursery, bathroom). The waste can is a great accent and a decorative way to disgard used tissues, papers, etc. Don’t be afraid to empty it a few times in your cleansing frenzy. Of course, the charming and cheerful yellow and black design is perfect for boys and girls when you are through with your work. Coordinating picture frames, tissue box and step stool are also available.

Step three: Clean while you are on a roll. Wash and iron your drapes. Rent a steam cleaner, or hire someone to come in and clean your carpets and furniture. Roll up heavy, winter rugs to give a lighter feel to the room for the airier season ahead. Put away your flannel sheets and put your crisp linens on the beds. Clean the windows. Then look down and see where the rest of the dirt has hidden; on you!

Before you dirty up your fresh and clean space, head to the bathroom and clean yourself up. The inspire personalized soaps are a delightful way to wash away the dirt of the day. They are 100% vegetable-based and triple-milled for a luxurious lather.  One of the freshest personalized soaps on the market with a warm white décor-complimenting color, these gentle yet intoxicating aqua mineral scented soaps will transport you from scullery maid to princess in an instant.

Step four: Now that you are clean, you have to put it all back together again. To ensure that your nice, clean space stays that way for a little while, try to reorganize things as you go. A great way to organize some of those stuffies is with a melissa’s garden handpainted toy box by sweet beginnings. This toy box is a beautiful and practical accessory for your room. The toy box features a charming hand painted bunny surrounded by hugs and kisses (x’s and o’s). The chest is designed to function as a spacious toy bin and bench seat. The elegant and beautifully detailed box can store all of your child’s toys as well as extra pillows, blankets or comforters in any room. Available in many base colors, we recommend using a light shade to enhance the design. Finely crafted, there is a space between the base of the chest and the lid to prevent a child’s fingers from becoming caught. The toy box is a great addition to your room! Best of all, it will help to complete your Spring cleaning for another year (or at least today!)

    The Easter Bunny Visited

    Friday, April 22nd, 2011

Happy Easter everyone! It is Good Friday and we are looking forward to a nice long weekend (for those of you who have the good fortune to receive it). Good Friday is celebrated by Christians as the end of Lent, and also the day that Jesus died on the cross. His resurrection a few days later is celebrated as Easter Sunday. It is an important holiday for Christians, and is celebrated all over the world.

Mixed in with all of the stories about Jesus, comes another quaint celebration – the Easter Bunny. Tied to Christian celebrations, eggs, as well as rabbits, are symbols of fertility. Perhaps because eggs were traditionally forbidden during Lent, there was often an abundance by Easter. They began to be died red to symbolize the blood of Jesus, or green to symbolize the rebirth of nature in the Spring. The rebirth of Jesus became linked to the symbols of eggs and rabbits, and somewhere down the line, the Easter Bunny was born.

Today the Easter Bunny tends to hide chocolate eggs around the house, where children can then collect them in their Easter Baskets. It is hard to resist a cute fluffy bunny, so we are going to share some of the bunnies that we have at with you. Here are just a few of bunnies you can seek and find at!

The cotton cable blanket is made with extraordinary attention to detail and is crafted with the greatest care and dedication. Harmonious thread colors are used to interpret and give life to the enchanting nautical theme. Perfect for your little girl’s nursery.

And with Easter here, what better way to celebrate than with our new Smocked Puff Bunnies Sleeve Dress. This dress has hand-smocked white bunnies on a light blue solid seersucker. There are delicate puff sleeves and a white peter pan collar. Just delightful and great for Easter.

Passover – The Festival of Freedom

    Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Why is this night different from all other nights?
On all other nights, we eat either unleavened or leavened bread, but tonight we eat only unleavened bread?
On all other nights, we eat all kinds of vegetables, but tonight, we eat only bitter herbs?
On all other nights, we do not dip [our food] even once, but tonight we dip twice?
On all other nights, we eat either sitting or reclining, but tonight we only recline?

These are the questions that herald the start of passover for the Jewish people. On the Seder, prayers are said, hands are washed and the festivities begin. A small piece of vegetable is dipped into salted water to remind us of the tears shed in Israel so long ago by Jewish slaves. The Matzah is broken and then storytelling begins. Children play an integral role by asking the aforementioned questions, before the story of Passover is told. In the telling of the story, the questions are answered.

Rituals and feasting are a part of the eight days of Passover. This festival of freedom acts as a reminder of the bitter times when Jews were held as slaves by the Egyptians. With Moses’ emancipation of his people, by leading them out of Egypt through the parted Red Sea, freedom was won. It has continued to be celebrated since then by Jewish people everywhere.

For those of the Jewish faith, the My Heritage Book is a perfect addition to your cultural library. My Heritage Book is a unique personalized children’s book celebrating heritage. These personalized books make the perfect baby gift, birthday gift, holiday gift, and other special occasion gift for children of all ages. Each custom-made, hardcover book can include up to 4 countries and is written for one American child. In today’s world, while Americans are surrounded by different cultures, languages, customs, traditions, & food, some of the traditions of their own heritage may be forgotten. My Heritage Book was developed to help teach children that these differences are a part of heritage and that their own heritages should be embraced. In this personalized book, children can learn about the countries their ancestors came from and some of the traditions they brought to America. By making their initial cultural explorations personal, we hope that their journey will become that more interesting & fun!

So while the dark is the last of the plagues that Moses and his people faced, maybe you can just add a nighlight to help? From us here at, we  wish you a happy Passover.

    April Showers

    Monday, April 18th, 2011

Oh my goodness. The weather straight across the country has been inclement this past weekend and looks like it is going to continue into the week. There are rain and snow advisories, wind and even flood advisories! What has happened to Spring? I suppose that April showers bring May flowers, but really! I guess we should cross our fingers that we will see sunshine soon. For today though, perhaps we will focus on keeping warm and dry.

The best way to keep your child dry is with  this children’s waterproof poncho. With the rain in the forecast these ponchos are perfect. Fun & waterproof, this outerwear will keep your youngster dry in drizzle or heavy downpour. Made from nylon, the ponchos are available in many fabulous colors and designs. They are even embellished with matching pom poms. There is also a hood to keep their head warm and dry. Now rainy days can be fun with this adorable rain gear.

An umbrella might still be in order though. It will definitely be appreciated today. So make rainy days your child’s favorite days with their very own personalized umbrella! Spring’s most sought after accessory is now available for your child and features a child-safe design with a wood handle and No more lost umbrellas as your child will now pay extra attention to their favorite outerwear accessory. Children’s size automatic umbrella with signature Geary Red ribbon closure. When your child finds out that it can be personalized for an additional fee, you might just have to splash out for the extra big smile. Don’t feel left out though, as there is a matching adult size umbrella also available, so that Mommy and me can puddle jump together.

I don’t know about you, but I am still recovering from the long winter that just passed. While I don’t mind the rain, I am still thinking warmth. On this rainy day, I will be reaching for a sweater for some extra warmth. Who can resist this cute striped cotton sweater? Wrap your baby or child in this hand knit, 100% soft cotton sweater of excellent quality and workmanship. In a range of sizes from six months all the way up to 9/10, you can get one for all the kids in your house. With a classic stripe  and a wide assortment of colors, everyone will want one. They make a wonderful gift too!

So if all this rain brings a few flowers than I suppose we should try to look forward to a flowery bounty sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we can admire a different colorful flower via this cute chime garden by lamaze.  This charming Lamaze musical toy is a delight for both parents and babies alike with its soothing sounds; bright, friendly colors; and adorable design. The bright bouquet of five happy colorful flowers has three musical modes that are activated by baby’s touch and help to develop visual and auditory skills and teach cause and effect. In the exploratory mode, baby can produce a different chiming tone by pressing the center of each flower. The second mode requires baby to continue pushing the flowers to finish out the full version of If You’re Happy and You Know It. In, the last mode, baby plays one of two classical tunes with a light pat of any flower. The flower’s faces light up during play to keep baby’s attention, and fabrics of different textures (and some with crinkly sounds) make up the petals of each flower and the leaves, promoting tactile stimulation. The chimes, although electronic, are a pleasure to listen to and parents won’t mind hearing this toy over and over again.

So if we you do not feel like going outside to splash in the rain, you can at least have some colorful fun inside until more real flowers peak up outside. Stay warm and dry today!

    Welcome Back to Spring

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011 is still stretching our tired limbs and waking up from our long winter’s nap. We are in good company though, as bears yawn with rumbly tummies, frogs wriggle their stiff legs and skunks fluff up their sleep flattened tails. Birds soar across the sky heading North for their summer homes. And pasty-skinned people don capris and sandals in their will to capture the sun’s warming rays.

At, we have a mix of all of these creatures in our storehouse of goods. Pictured here is the sleepy frog that is now happily fishing on the riverbank. This Gone Fishin’ French Panel crib from Art for Kids features a sweet hand-painted scene of a little frog fishing! The base is a distressed creamy warm white finish with countryside fishing scenes on the panels and little duckling on the headboard. This is one-of-a-kind piece that will be passed down to future generations. The crib meets all current infant safety regulations and requires a standard crib mattress (not included). Adjustable mattress levels allow this crib to grow with your infant. The crib itself is hand crafted entirely of birch and alder woods. When standing at the headboard, the right side rail drops. A complete line of coordinating furnishings and accessories is available to match this crib. While you might not want to crawl right back into bed just now, it is a beautiful place to rest your head.

Over there is the rumbly bear preparing for his spring feast. We can offer him this darling personalized bear baby plate to eat off of. If you are thinking more people, it’s also a perfect gift for a birth, baptism, or christening. An adorable bear surrounded by bees and flowers sits at the center of this plate. The outside of the plate is decorated with your baby’s name and the date. The plate is available in Sage, Blue, Pink, Yellow, or Lavender and can be combined with a matching optional cup to make a great set. Plates measure approximately 8 1/4″ and all writing appears in lowercase letters. These are the perfect keepsake item that can be enjoyed now and for years to come.

And look at the birds soaring overhead. What kind are they – why ducks of course! This large fleece duck is very soft and is sure to become an object of comfort when going to sleep and something to cuddle with when waking up. Handmade in Israel, the ducks win hearts with their simplicity: there are no embellishments, no electronic sounds, no weird faces; just rich colors, clean lines, pronounced features. With long beak, floppy wings and a sweet disposition, these soft, fleece ducks make a great companion for your child. You will find a contrasting color on Ducky’s bill and on the underside of his wings. The ducky is made out of the softest of fleeces. There are no button features. Designed with softness and simplicity in mind, this is an excellent choice for the early stages. Soft to the touch and pleasing to the eye, each is carefully handcrafted with great attention to detail and designed to spark a child’s imagination. Now that you are awake, there are many hours of play ahead.

Whew, what is that smell? Oh right, the skunks have woken up as well. Oh well, this “Bandit Skunk” wall art from Oopsy Daisy by Sally Bennett won’t add any aroma when added to your child’s room. It is a depiction of a Skunk in soft colors and hues that adds vibrancy to the decor of any child’s room. This top quality canvas reproduction is made using the Giclee printing process and has the look and feel of an original painting. Each canvas is stretched over wood bars, glass-free, and comes ready to hang! No framing is required. An ideal surface for kids rooms, as there is no glass to break! Artwork is finished on all sides and comes with a wire hanger for wall mounting. It can easily be wiped clean with a soft, dry cloth. Makes a great gift idea. Designed by artist Sally Bennett and it comes with the designer’s biography attached to the back.

So welcome back to Babybox and welcome back to Spring!

    Waking from Hibernation

    Monday, April 11th, 2011

It has been an awfully long winter in most parts of North America this year. At, we took a page out of the bear’s book and found ourselves hibernating right along with them. Spring is slow to arrive, but we are finally itching to get back out there and enjoy life again. What better way than to show off some of the new lines that we have introduced in the last little while. So let’s welcome Spring with a fresh new look from!

With this being the beginning of National Library Week, let’s look at one of our newest books for babies. This cloth book is soft, but scrunchy with interesting textures. The story goes like this (look away if you don’t want to know the ending).

    Who’s behind the bush..SQUEAK boo! It’s me, pig! Who’s behind the haystack…JINGLE…boo! It’s me, horse! Who’s behind the flowers…SCRUNCH…boo! It’s me, sheep! Who’s behind the sun…MUSIC…boo! It’s you!

The bright colours, sound effects and simple but engaging story make it a hit with little ones, even from birth.

The extended daylight hours and warmer temperatures also mean for more time outside. What better way to celebrate that, than with a new outfit to run around the yard in. This personalized football pattern cap sleeve tee shirt will look adorable on your little boy. Designed with red, brown and white football print, it is classic and unique. The shirt features shorter cap sleeves and is a more feminine look for boys and less boxy than our classic tees. Made from 100% cotton and easy to care for. Get out and enjoy the fresh air!

With all that running around, your little tyke is bound to get hungry though. Why not serve him up a snack on this new blue dish with car silhouette that is perfect for any little boy. Each blue dish can be personalized with your child’s name (maximum 11 characters) and the set can be ordered as a two piece or three piece set. It is made of a dishwasher-safe ceramic, which is also microwaveable. That will leave you with less time fussing and more time playing. It is also a nice perk that it is made right here in the USA.

We cannot overlook our friend that we mentioned at the beginning of the post either. Since we are coming out of hibernation along with our friendly bear, we couldn’t resist showing you this cute little guy. Here is your own little bear that you will love to snuggle up in this blanket with matching teddy. This 100% cotton baby blanket and teddy bear set are made of an amazingly soft fleece. These ultra soft must-haves are offered in an array of colors to match any nursery. And as spring also seems to be the time of rebirth and renewal, this teddy makes for the perfect baby shower gift.
