    May Day at

    Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Today is May 1st. In some parts of the world Beltane or May Day is celebrated. Bonfires are lit, flowers are collected and worn in the hair or used to fill baskets. A Maypole is erected for people to dance around. Traditionally a Maypole was a young tree cut down and then planted in the ground. Often ribbons were tied to it, so that as people danced around it, the ribbons then decorated the Maypole. It is a beautiful sight to behold and there are still places where Maypoles have been spied.

Like here on this beautiful Maypole bed by Sweet Beginnings! It has a French Country style that is inspired by the hillsides of rural France and will look terrific in any room! The four poster bed also features a wonderful hand painted design and their fabulous embossed carving applique design. Hand crafted from solid maple, birch and poplar wood and high quality hardware and then hand painted, this bed can be customized in many colors to complement your decor. A canopy kit option is also available to make this extra special. This bed is of heirloom quality and can be enjoyed for many years to come.

By the Light of the Harvest Moon

    Friday, September 28th, 2012

I can hardly believe that September is coming to an end! School is in full swing and Halloween is around the corner, with Thanksgiving and Christmas hot on its heels. Before we start ramping up for those holidays, we get to wave goodbye to  the month with the beauty of the Harvest Moon on Sunday. Will you be out in the fields reaping your harvest under the light of the moon? I suspect that I will be dreaming under a warm duvet myself, but that big, bright moon will help farmers harvest lots of corn, squash and the necessary pumpkins to feed us all in the days to come (like in my pumpkin pie!)

Did you know that the September full moon is called a Harvest Moon because it seems to rise at virtually the same time for the few nights around its fullest, and it is thought that its light helps farmers to reap the last of their harvest for the season. The cow jumping over this moon has got its work cut out for it as well in the cow and moon nursery rhyme print.  Bring this classic nursery rhyme alive in your child’s room. The cow jumping over the moon is surrounded by a hand painted pale green gingham mat, framed in a pale pink and white polka dot frame with crackled finish, and has child-safe plexiglass so that it can be hung safely anywhere in the room. The print is square and works great with other prints in the series. Perfect for your little one’s room!

Think of all those busy farmers harvesting their bounties long into the night in their fields. In days not that not gone, the light of the moon allowed the harvest to be brought in even after the sun had gone to bed. It made for a long day, but it was worth it when the turkey was surrounded by all the delicious harvest on the Thanksgiving table. This Pilgrim plate will remind your child of their roots, plus it makes for unique tableware. The plate is approximately 10 inches in diameter, is dishwasher safe and non-toxic. It features a matte finish and can also be personalized in your choice of dish style, color and font. This BPA free plate is durable and safe for children of all age groups. It makes an excellent keepsake item that will be treasured for a long time.

And what did the farmers harvest, but pumpkins of course! We still love them today in pies, soups and on a baby’s bottom! Dress your little one this holiday in our pumpkin diaper cover. A bounty of belly-laughs will be your reward from baby and everyone that sees them in this festive garb.

Dress them in pumpkin-inspired wear from top to bottom with the halloween dot personalized headband. Your little pumpkin will love this adorable personalized headband! Made with a 1 1/2 inch wide orange with white dotted ribbon, trimmed with black ric rac…sewn inside is a plastic headband. Embroidered on the band is your name in your choice of fonts.

hopes that you reap a bountiful harvest under the light of the full moon this weekend!

    Labor Day Blues

    Monday, September 3rd, 2012

personalized kindergarten rocks tee shirt – school

That’s it. It’s Labor Day. Summer has unofficially come to an end. If your kids haven’t started back to school already, tomorrow is the day. It’s back to school and back to routines. Labor Day might have originally been a celebration of American workers and their contributions and achievements to the workforce, but as summer vacations wind to a close, it feels more like work is just beginning again. Bummer…

    personalized football hat

Are there any perks to the coming of Labor Day though? Well, I know plenty of parents who are more than happy to see school start back up again. Plus, I can think of more than a few other folks who are ready and waiting for the NFL and College Football season to begin. Go Huskies! Aren’t we a nation that can’t live without our football? Doesn’t this give a reason to celebrate?

carnival rides – wall art by alison jay

There will be plenty of fairs and festivals going on this weekend too, so perhaps you can get in a ride on the ferris wheel, before worrying about the alarm clock ringing tomorrow morning. A little cotton candy will be just the thing to end of the summer season with style!

new madison sky – child club loveseat

But maybe you just want to rest and relax from the labors you generally are under. You deserve a little R ‘n R every once in a while! So put your feet up and relax this weekend. Read the paper. Finish your summer reading list of juicy books.

Whatever you get up to, wishes you a lovely Labor Day!

    It’s a Boy!

    Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

You get the announcement and are overjoyed for the new family. While they are settling into their new life, you remember when you were there and know how hectic it can be. Laundry, cleaning and even making meals takes a back seat to the demands of the new baby. That is why you want to help. How can you help though, you wonder? How about dropping in with a casserole and leaving behind a few new items for the baby to push off laundry for a day (or hour).

Some babies are droolers. Others spit up at every feed. Even if you have a relatively clean baby, when they start eating solids you will need a mountain of bibs. The sailboat bib set is a great gift for baby. The set includes a bib and burp cloth with bright cheerful color pattern. The bib can be personalized with the baby’s name or initial. Choose your own font style and color to make the item unique. Perfect for mealtime and any occasion!

Another thing that you can never get enough of is baby blankets. One is just NOT going to cut it. You will use it to keep baby warm, to protect your shoulders from spit-up and to discretely breast feed your little angel. So presenting the new Mom and Dad with another baby blanket is a gift that they will appreciate over and over again. Swaddle Designs make some of the best receiving blankets available. This is one of our most popular newborn baby blankets. Every new parent knows that swaddling a baby is one of the first things you are taught before leaving the hospital. Now with the exclusive 1-2-3 Swaddle Tip Tag, the Ultimate Swaddling Blanket makes it easy. Securely swaddling a baby helps them feel safe, cozy and relaxed. The double napped blanket also offers a soft decorative non-slip finished edge for added functionality and style points.

You can’t go wrong with another outfit for the new baby. This adorable take me home outfit is made from a luxurious 100% pima cotton, suitable for the most precious of babies! The outfit includes three pieces–a long sleeve shirt that snaps on the side and is edged in navy picot trim, with a matching footed pant and hat. For additional comfort, add the double layered blanket measuring an approximately 26″ x 36″, perfect to wrap baby up and take him home. This luxurious little outfit makes an extra special gift monogrammed! Outfit available in sizes Newborn and 0-3 months. Monogram thread color will coordinate with picot trim.

If you want to get away from practicle, then how about a toy! This charming Lamaze musical toy is a delight for both parents and babies alike with its soothing sounds; bright, friendly colors; and adorable design. The bright bouquet of five happy colorful flowers has three musical modes that are activated by baby’s touch and help to develop visual and auditory skills and teach cause and effect. In the exploratory mode, baby can produce a different chiming tone by pressing the center of each flower. The second mode requires baby to continue pushing the flowers to finish out the full version of If You’re Happy and You Know It. In, the last mode, baby plays one of two classical tunes with a light pat of any flower. The flower’s faces light up during play to keep baby’s attention, and fabrics of different textures (and some with crinkly sounds) make up the petals of each flower and the leaves, promoting tactile stimulation. The chimes, although electronic, are a pleasure to listen to and parents won’t mind hearing this toy over and over again.

    Getting Ready For Halloween

    Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Halloween is just days away! Is the house decorated in its spooky finest? Do your little zombies know what they want to be when they head out to trick or treat, or are they still undecided over Hannah Montana or Scooby Doo? Are you a hay bales and scarecrow kind of house or does the sound and light show from your scary setup have the neighbors ticking off the days til November 1st? No worries, we have a few tricks up our sleeves still to help get you organized and ready for some fantastic fun on Halloween!

If you find Halloween too hair-raising for your liking, then you need to get one of these. Keep flighty locks under wrap this Halloween with festive style. Your little pumpkin will love this adorable personalized headband! Made with a 1 1/2 inch wide orange with white dotted ribbon, trimmed with black ric rac…sewn inside is a plastic headband. Embroidered on the band is your name in your choice of fonts.

Once your frightful doo is tamed, then grab your witches broom to set the house in order for all the trick or treaters who will descend upon you soon. You know what I’m talking about; bats in the attic, black cats crossing your path and those creeping cobwebs that cover everything. You need them all! If your little Henry is into the cobwebs too, then dress him in one of these halloween personalized long sleeve tee when he goes wandering around that night. This personalized halloween pattern long sleeve tee shirt will look adorable on your kid. Designed with black and white halloween print, it is classic and unique. This classic style long sleeve tee shirt works on any child. Made from 100% cotton and easy to care for.

    With skeletons scattered in your outside graveyard and phantoms flitting through the trees, have you thought about what you are going to be giving out to the little demons who dare your dastardly domain that night? Grab the ghosts (or your kids) and an apron to create these creepy treats: Spooky Witch Fingers! Guaranteed to gross out even the most gallant super heroes around! Here’s the recipe to make your own;

    • 1 cup butter, softened
    • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon almond extract
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 3/4 cup whole almonds
    • 1 (.75 ounce) tube red decorating gel

    1. Combine the butter, sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Beat together with an electric mixer; gradually add the flour, baking powder, and salt, continually beating; refrigerate 20 to 30 minutes.
    2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.
    3. Remove dough from refrigerator in small amounts. Scoop 1 heaping teaspoon at a time onto a piece of waxed paper. Use the waxed paper to roll the dough into a thin finger-shaped cookie. Press one almond into one end of each cookie to give the appearance of a long fingernail. Squeeze cookie near the tip and again near the center of each to give the impression of knuckles. You can also cut into the dough with a sharp knife at the same points to help give a more finger-like appearance. Arrange the shaped cookies on the baking sheets.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven until the cookies are slightly golden in color, 20 to 25 minutes.
    5. Remove the almond from the end of each cookie; squeeze a small amount of red decorating gel into the cavity; replace the almond to cause the gel to ooze out around the tip of the cookie.

Last, but not least, put some eyeballs on ice for any friendly (adult) zombies/neighbors that wander through your witches den. They just might need a drink after haunting the hills and dales around your home. So pour them a wicked witches brew in their travel bottle to go and wish them a Happy Halloween for all and sundry! Happy howling Fans!
