April showers bring May flowers
While the May flowers will be a beautiful thing to look forward to, if you have showers in your part of the world, why not make the best of it by tackling a little spring cleaning? The long months of winter see us all hibernate a little, but it is time to clean out your nest and spruce up your home. Need a few suggestions of how to make your world sparkle again?
SPRING CLEANING SUGGESTIONS
- Wash the winter grime from your windows and let the beautiful sunshine in. A natural solution to cleanse your panes, without damaging your skin or irritating your children’s noses is this solution in a spray bottle. Easy on the senses and your pocket book!
- 2 Cups water
- 1/4 Cup white vinegar
- 1/2 tsp dish soap
aqua bucket hat by snapper rock
Pack away the mitts, scarves, boots and snow pants. Give them a good clean before stowing them for the season and think about popping a dryer sheet or two in with them to keep them smelling fresh til next season. Time to replace them with summer hats and sunscreen! Check expiry dates on last year’s sunscreen and aftersun, and replace as necessary.
children's clothes tree
While you are packing away the outerwear, don’t forget to give a good clean to the storage area. Nothing beats a fresh corner of your home to embrace a fresh season. If your hat basket has seen better days, think about replacing it with a new storage container or even hat stand! These children’s clothes trees will clean up a cluttered corner in no time!
children's outdoor table
As the weather warms up, we can’t help but want to spend more time outdoors to soak up that precious sun. Why not bring the indoors activities out with a table just for the kids. Set them up with art supplies, a board game or even lunch al fresco with this children’s outdoor table sized just for them.
- While the kids are outside drawing pictures, you can head back indoors to give a thorough vacuum and scrub to their playroom. Don’t forget to wipe down baseboards and whisk cobwebs from the ceiling while you are at it!
Before you leave the playroom, you might even be inspired to do a little purging. I swear that stuffed animals breed over the winter months and puzzle pieces seem to disappear as soon as the packaging is opened. Discard broken toys, games or puzzles that are missing pieces and donate items that your children no longer play with. If you are daring, you could even try to thin out the stuffy population, but beware the wrath of a toddler who needs the very item that they have not touched in months as soon as it hits the Goodwill pile! Once you can find the floor again, then reorganize the remaining toys back onto shelves and into handy bins or pails. With a little encouragement, maybe your children will even get the hang of cleaning up after themselves one day!

Whew, is it ever HOT out! Is there any end in sight for this heat wave? My goodness, I think North America is melting, with us along with it.
It feels like we are in Connecticut anyway.
How are you staying cool this summer? Do you have the central air blasting? Is the window shaker taking the edge off the humidity in your house? Or are you living at the pool, be it yours, the neighbors or the public pool up the road? Anyone living near a beach want to share some of the luxury of lapping waves against the shore with us here at BabyBox.com? All great ideas to stay cool, but maybe you could share some more ways you stay cool too!
One of the ways we stay cool is by quietly relaxing under the shade of the old oak tree in our fatboy headdemock hammock with stand. The Fatboy Headdemock, created by Finnish designer Jukka Setälä, is the perfect place for reading the paper or taking an afternoon snooze. If you don’t have a tree available, it comes with an optional stand, as well. Made from Nylon fabric in padded layers with internal frame and water-resistant and stain-resistant coating.
How about running through the sprinkler? Look at this cute bathing suit that we have, to slip onto your little girl for some outdoor fun. New for summer 2011, Bella Bliss has introduced their ruffled swimsuit. Made of nylon/spandex with ruffle detail, halter neckline, fully lined. Hot pink and navy sizes 12m-12year. She will squeal with delight as the water cools her off from the sprinkler’s spray. You can breathe easy knowing that she is not only cool and happy, but also stylish too.
Don’t forget the cold drinks! Whether it be lemonade for the kids or an icy cold bottle of zinfandel for the adults, these ice buckets will keep all of your beverages cold this summer. You will even add some style to your next cocktail party with our fabulous new personalized lucite ice bucket. This also makes for a perfect hostess gift! Choose from our stylish swatches + monograms to create your one-of-a-kind gift… or design one for yourself! When you pull a refreshing bottle of water out of the bucket and quench your thirst with it, you will appreciate that you thought to get one of these.
Or maybe your answer is to just get away from it all for a night. Pack your pajamas and your pillow and you are ready to go. Whether you are headed for an air conditioned hotel, campground or just sending your little one down the street for a sleepover at a friend’s house, you need the overnighter by barn dandys. Our drawstring bag holds everything you need for a sleepover. In a variety of fabrics, reminiscent of the beach, camping and more, you might need to get more than one to satisfy your child’s every whim and fancy. Just don’t forget your toothbrush!
So, how are you staying cool this summer? Why not leave us a comment here, on Facebook or with a friendly tweet on Twitter. We’d love to hear from you!

Whew, it’s hot out! This heat makes it perfect for a beach day though. Let’s go!
Before we go, let’s pack a bag. We will need sunscreen, bathing suits, towels, beach chairs, a cooler bag with snacks and drinks, plus a beach umbrella to give us a little shade (psst, check out the links to see a few of the suggestions from BabyBox.com). The little ones will need either life jackets or water wings, and Mom will need the latest romance novel that she has been devouring. Don’t forget to grab some sand toys, as a day at the beach isn’t complete without a sandcastle. Now lets hit the road!
You might be travelling in the minivan today, but remember when you hit the beach in the old VW camper? This Oopsy Daisy “On The Road Again – Beach” nightlight portrays a trip to the beach in your old van. While you might fondly reminisce, your child will love this nightlight for the bright colors and the sweet reminder of the beach. This nightlight can be easily wiped clean with a soft, dry cloth and is ideal for your child’s room as it does not have a glass surface to break. You can even personalize the nightlight with your child’s name or any other word or phrase like “Good Night”. The beach will stay with you day and especially at night!
Ok, get out of the van already and grab the bags! This half-moon basket handbag is perfect for the beach. Our beach basket is big and roomy, fabulous for the beach or shopping. Remember, these baskets are “green”- woven from a choking weed in Thai rivers. Luckily, they make a strong and lasting basket! Perfect to tuck in Mom’s book, water wings, sunscreen and more! You will wonder what you did before you got this stylish and sturdy basket.
Ok, bathing suits on, sunscreen applied and the kids are off to swim and play. Once they have tired themselves out from their first round of wave bashing, they will need to rest up before they head back out for round two. Pull out the towels and hand over some snacks. But what’s this? Just when you thought it was safe to go into the water………….it’s time to get out and dry off with this beach-perfect shark hooded towel! Enlist help from the very top of the food chain to get your water bug on dry land. Our Shark is made of absorbent blue 100% cotton terry with an embroidered face and non-chompy teeth. And while Sandy may swim in international waters, he’s proudly made in U.S. Your little one might just wear it a little longer to scare other beach goers with their shark’s teeth!
After the waves have been conquered, the sandcastles have reached the sky and the last of the snacks have disappeared, compliments of your hungry little ones, it is time to pack up and head home. Once it is time to go, you don’t want to stuff all the wet bathing suits back into your basket handbag though! Mom certainly won’t appreciate that, especially if she is at an exciting part in her novel. What to do? This change of clothes holder is the perfect solution for beach goers (or potty training preschoolers as well). It safely holds damp items and can easily be wiped clean afterwards. It can be ordered in several different fabric options as well, so you can get one for every member of the family. A perfect article to wrap up another perfect day at the beach.

Yes, summer is officially here. With temperatures rising and the school bell rung for the final time, now is the time to enjoy all there is to do during summer vacations. My favorite stop is to the beach. Children cannot resist the lure of picking up sea shells with the lull of ocean’s waves in the background. Truth be told, neither can I. This large shoulder basket bag is inspired by the sea, adorned as it is with a starfish detailing. It is a handy item to tote along to the beach as there is lots of room for sunscreen, a bottle of water, your camera for taking photos of your little ones playing on the shore, and maybe a good book in case you get a moment to relax yourself. Ha, ha, good luck with that!
With your book quickly forgotten, it is time to dive right into the day. The best wear for the beach is swim ware of course, so pull on your bikini. Well, maybe a tankini to hide the reminders that may be still lingering on your mid-section from your baby’s time spent there. Don’t let that stop you from dressing your bundle of fun up cute though. The Emma Floral bathing suit by MN Bird is darling. The pink dotted tank suit with ruffle is made from from 85% Nylon and 15% Spandex and is comfortable and pretty. It has spaghetti straps that cross at back giving it a stylish and feminine look. For the ultimate set for your little girl, add the matching white bucket hat. This versatile bucket hat is designed from 100% cotton and protects little faces from the sun. Functional and stylish, even while playing hard at the beach!
Ultimately the day must come to an end though. As the sun sets on a perfect day, it is time to pack up all the new found shells, beach toys and gather up the wet towels and bathing suits. If you don’t want to jam the wet suits in with your camera and book, here is a solution. Take along the don’t go changing clothes holder. It is the perfect place to keep wet items you want to keep separate, as it has a waterproof liner. There is hope that you might return to your book one day.
While the day might fade into memories, you can enjoy the feelings any time with this “A Day At The Beach” wall art from Oopsy Daisy by Mari Takabayashi. It brings the fun and frolic from the beach right into your child’s room. This top quality canvas reproduction is stretched over wood bars with no glass to break. It can even be wiped clean with a soft, dry cloth. It makes a wonderful addition to any child’s room, playroom or even beach house, so that the beach fun will continue to last for many moons to come.

The weather has blossomed. The sunshine begs for every waking moment to be enjoyed. That means that the outdoors has become a brand new play space. In celebration, perhaps we could take our tea outside today! Gather up the tea pot. Handle the good china with care. See if Mom or Dad has a little tidbit that can be enjoyed for a snack. Now let’s head outside. Where shall we sit though?
Why, at this beautiful little table of course! This fine quality children’s table is a perfect example of classic Scandinavian garden-furniture design. It will hold all your tea party needs, from a plate of cookies to dainty little napkins and of course the pot of tea. A pitcher of lemonade will do in a pinch too, for those so inclined. Now to invite the guests. Call your friends or gather your favorite stuffies. What next?
Don’t forget to invite Julia! The Julia Pal Knit Doll is the perfect way to enjoy a playdate. The adorable playmate is decorated with a hand knit dress accented by with fun bright colors. So soft and cuddly, this Sweeters Pals can be personalized and can be customized with your color choice. A great companion for any girl all year round. She would be crushed if she was not invited, so better find her for a spot of tea as well. She might have a friend or two she wants to bring, so check Babybox for any companions to join.
Now that we are all together is there anything else that we need? A place to sit, of course! This children’s bench with characteristic cross back has become an icon of Scandinavian garden-furniture design. The Bench is a beautiful piece of furniture in its own right. Paired with a set of classic furniture including bench and table, it is the perfect place for tea.
These pieces of furniture are made of solid hardwood, lacquered with a rich, semi-mat lacquer(polyurethane coating). All external fittings are made of brass, while the “feet” are made of rubber to protect the furniture legs from rising moisture that can cause the wood to split.
So paint faces with sunshine and smiles and pour out the tea. It is a great day to play outdoors today.

A pedal car is a wonderful gift selection for your little driver to be. Pedal cars are often our first exposure to America’s fascination with the automobile. Play cars stimulate every kid to dream about their first car and, upon seeing one of our pedal cars, every adult looks back fondly at their first ride. For most of us, our first experience “driving” a car is almost always the pedal car.
Today, pedal cars, like many other classic toys, have become a collector’s item fostering numerous clubs, books and magazines. Even museums now feature antique pedal cars as part of continuing or touring exhibits.
The pedal car is the kind of toy that all of us wished for as a kid. It is so evocative of our childhood, that most of us are overcome with a flood of memories and emotions from the past when we come across these pedal toys. Whether you are a kid, a kid-at-heart or a toy collector, one look at the classic styled pedal cars, fire trucks, racing cars, airplanes makes you yearn for the simpler times of your youth.
Our search for pedal cars and other pedal toys concluded with our selection of the following great products. Each is brand new – but evokes the magic of classic pedal car designs from yester-year and each metal car, plane, trike, tricycle and firetruck can be handed down from generation to generation – an heirloom gift that transcends time, brings families together and puts a smile on young and old alike. Select one of our high-quality retro reproductions designed by American Retro. Choose from the pedal car, truck or plane from yesteryear.
